No, this is not a revision of one of Hemingway’s fine works. It is rather a recollection of yesterdays events.
But let’s start at the beginning. I managed to go to the gym the second time in a row. I am getting there. 😉
The weather was quite foggy and I took a picture of the road I always have to take in order to get to the gym.
Funny enough, upon checking the picture on my camera the street before me suddenly seemed rather scary. Weird.
Anyhow, the gym. I did my obligatory 30 something minutes on the treadmill, had a little chat with Jeffrey, the Jamaican cleaner from yesterday and headed on to the Rhine.
I just love the Rhine during the early hours of the day.
Now, I guess every one would agree, this day started good. And it actually turned out a good day altogether. Gym, check. Food choices were great, also check and my mood is just fantastic at the moment. So all is good, right?
Well, the reason I chose this title, a farewell to arms…
This is actually my very own farewell to arms.
A farewell to arms??
Am I at war? Well, yes and no… The war used to take place in my own office and the weapons of choice were ignorance and whatever words seemed sharp and functional enough. It was an offensive war, lead by my colleague Marlen whereas I was the defensive opponent.
Now, you might have realized that I chose to use the past tense here. Yes people the war seems to be over, at least the trenches most certainly moved.
When I got to work yesterday, this is what I saw upon entering the office.
An empty desk??
This is Marlen’s desk. And yes, it is empty… Is this the last chapter of the smoldering remnants of the office war?? It seems to be like it. Yay, good news on top of a day that started good. Perfect! So, what actually happened, I got to the office at 5:50 am and upon entering, Sonja, another colleague stood in my office, all flabbergasted.
“She is moving….NOW!” She exclaimed and raised her arms as if to underline her statement even more. Marlen stood beside her, obviously taking out the last few files from the shelves, ready to leave. Obviously she had moved most of her stuff after I had left the office on Tuesday.
I was rather unprepared and only managed to mumble an empty “Mh!”
I had hardly reached my desk when Marlen addressed me again. “So now you will have your peace.”
I was contemplating what she had said and put down my bag. “Sorry, what did you say?” I responded, turning on my computer. I was sure I had heard it wrong, but she repeated what she had said and it still was; “So now you will have your peace.”
“I had no problem Marlen…” I responded. I really felt the need to say that because I am not allowing her to make me out to be the bad person in this story. After all, I still don’t know what I have done to deserve such an undue dose of hatred. But that shall all be in the past now. “Ok!” she said and left the office.
That’s it. But will this really be that last chapter. Well, I really hope so because I really didn’t like that book!!
Marlen’s new office is on the opposite end of the building and I am glad. I actually didn’t push the issue of her moving but obviously she did that all on her own Tuesday after she had found out that she didn’t get the job she had applied for two month ago.
Well, if you ask me… let’s make it the last chapter. One more thing to do….
– THE END –
And now to something completely different. 😀
It seems, at least at the moment, that the summer has returned, I guess it is the last uproar of summer anyway.
The temperature went up to 31 degrees Celsius yesterday.
Let’s enjoy those colors a few last times, autumn is near.
Today’s happy song is “Feel that Fire” – Dierks Bentley
All is really great…
Yea! Glad she moved. And, not surprised that someone who would be clueless enough to complain to her boss about not having enough work (thus demonstrating a total lack of initiative and proving that she’ll always need a manger to tell her exactly what to do b/c she can’t think of it on her own) would be passed over for a new job she wanted. She’s young – maybe she’ll learn, or maybe she’ll spend her life blaming other people for her disappointments.
But she won’t be blaming within earshot of you!
It is so funny to read that you are experiencing the last days of summer. It has been in the 37-38 and even 39 range every day for the last couple of weeks here. Summer isn’t going to end for us until October, I fear! I cannot wait until I can go outside to take a walk. Keep posting river pictures – it makes my office feel a little cooler when I look out over the digital water.
